In short, adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare has lagged other industries, but not for very much longer.

As I’ve said before, AI is poised to help healthcare organizations achieve the Triple Aim. AI can help answer relatively straightforward questions such as which patients may have difficulty paying their bill as well as tackle more complex challenges including determining which type 2 diabetic patients are likely to have a diabetes-related complication, reducing physician burnout and restoring the joy of medicine to practicing physicians, and improving access to emergency care in rural areas through AI-enhanced virtual care.

That’s why I was so thrilled to host an AI Fireside Chat at HIMSS19. Three distinguished colleagues joined me for thought-provoking and educational conversation about the potential, possibilities and challenges of AI in healthcare and population health:

  • Josh Newman, MD, MSHS, Chief Medical Officer, Salesforce
  • Nassar Nizami, Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer, Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals
  • Bharat Rao, Ph.D., Partner & Leader Data Analytics for Healthcare & Life Sciences, KPMG

In the first video from our fireside chat, we discuss why AI adoption has lagged in healthcare. I encourage you to watch the 12-minute video.
